EXHIBIT D -MINING PLAN (continued)
• only be done after a sediment sump is constructed at the lowest point of the east area as shown on
Map Exhibit C-2. The berm will serve to stockpile the material for later use in reclamation, while
also serving as a visual and noise barrier to travelers on Highway 6. The berm will be located
immediately north of the railroad right of ~vay and will be 6 to 8 feet high and will have ?.OH: I.OV
slopes. Once the topsoil berm is constructed, it will be immediately seeded with a mixture of
smooth brome, western wheat and crested wheatgrass in equal proportions at a rate of 19 pls/acre.
Mining will then commence in the northeast comer of the property. A berm of at least 10 to 30 feet
in height will also be left on the north end of the permit area, but this berm will be created by
excavating the material south of the terrace slope. This berm will therefore consist of the existing
original material on the slope.
Figure 1 below shows a typical cross-section view of this north berm looking west. Travelers along
Interstate 70 will see the existing terrace slope and will not be able to see the majority of the
disturbance inside the berm.
n
U
~ Undisturbed
Minim. ~'~`y-~, SIOpe
E lo' Wide (' _l
South ________ ~ - North
( ~
Pit Area
~i ._ ~l r
-~,` - J L
1 1_ ~
~r
~~ ~ ~
~ __'
10' to 30' Height ~yl
2H:1V inside slope ~
cut by operation
• Figure 1 -Cross-Section of Excavated North Berm (Looking West)
Carol Ann Permit CDMG Application 9
