the project area. Parts of the equipment that have come in contact with the soil will be
washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil and visible seed. Reclamation equipment will
also be washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil and visible seed after having been used
in areas with identified noxious weeds.
2.1 Backfilling and Regrading
Backfilling will be completed using the spoil previously excavated from the trench. The
backfill procedure will include removing all obvious earthwork by removing
embankments, backfilling excavations, and grading to re-establish the approximate
original contours of the land in the ROW.
Where settling may be a problem, backfill will be mounded over the trench
approximately 0.5 foot to compensate for subsidence unless otherwise specified by the
BLM or other landowner. The ROW and temporary use areas will not be lower than the
natural grade.
Final grading and installation of erosion control measures will be completed after the
trench is backfilled. Proper compaction and recontouring will be completed prior to
replacing topsoil.
All hillsides, stream banks and beds, non-essential acces
earth has been moved will be restored as close possible
land. This includes moving all fill material back ant
necessary to construct the pipeline.
2.2 Topsoil Replacement
s roads, and other areas where
to the original contours of the
o any sidehill cuts that were
Once the sites have been recontoured and compacted, topsoil will be redistributed over
the entire disturbed area from which it was salvaged. Depths of redistributed topsoil
will vary depending upon available stripping depths.
Topsoil will not be mixed with spoil material before or during replacement, and only
topsoil will be respread. Topsoil from unstrapped areas will not be used to cover
adjacent disturbances. Topsoil will not be handled during excessively wet conditions or
at times when the ground or topsoil is frozen. The length of time topsoil is stockpiled
will be minimized. Normally, topsoil redistribution will occur within one week of
topsoil stripping.
Replaced topsoil will be left in a roughened condition to minimize erosion. Additional
erosion control and soil stabilization measures may be required on steeper slopes, in
areas of erodible soils, and in areas adjacent to or within drainages.
2.3 Seedbed Preparation
The topsoil seedbed will be roughened by harrowing, tilling, or other methods to create
microhabitats that enhance revegetation. By creating surface roughness, the likelihood
of seed establishment will be increased due to increased infiltration and improved soil
moisture availability and retention.
PipeLne Reclamation Plan
Yankee GWCh Sodmm Atinerals Project
American Soda, L.L.P.
