YANKEE GULCH SODIUM MINERALS PROJECT
PIPELINE RECLAMATION PLAN
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Reclamation practices for the American Soda, L.L.P. (American Soda) Yankee Gulch
Sodium Minerals Project (Yankee Gulch Project) pipeline have been developed from the
following sources: 1) coordination with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and
Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) technical staff; 2) existing reclamation plans
contained in plans of development (PODS) for other pipeline projects; and 3) experience
gained from other reclamation projects in Colorado.
1.1 Pipeline Reclamation Plan Purpose
The purpose of this Pipeline Reclamation Plan (Reclamation Plan) is to describe
methods for replacing topsoil, reseeding disturbed areas, controlling erosion, and
monitoring reclamation success.
This plan is applicable to the construction of the right-of-way (ROW), improved access
roads, temporary use areas, and laydown areas. Any modifications to this plan related
to site-specific conditions will be submitted to the BLM.
1.2 Pipeline Reclamation Plan Goals and Objectives
The short-term goals of this reclamation plan are to control erosion and sedimentation
and to minimize impacts to adjacent land uses. Properly executed construction
practices, optimum scheduling, and timely construction, as described in the pipeline
construction section of the Yankee Gulch Project Pipeline Information Summary, will
mitigate short-term impacts.
Long-term goals include control of erosion and sedimentation, protection of water
resources and soils, and restoration of pre-existing land uses and vegetative cover.
These long-term goals will be met through implementation of this Reclamation Plan.
Monitoring during the construction and operational phases will ensure that these goals
are achieved.
2.0 RECLAMATION PROCESS
The following sections outline the sequential steps for reclaiming the ROW after the
pipeline has been installed and the trench backfilled. The same procedures will be
applied to the reclamation of ancillary areas (temporary use areas, improved access
roads, laydown areas). Reclamation activities will take place entirely within the
established construction ROW except where maintenance is required on adjacent
existing ROWS. Work outside the construction ROW would be cleared by the BLM or
other landowner before being performed.
To prevent the introduction of noxious weeds into disturbed areas, reclamation
equipment, including seeding equipment, will be thoroughly cleaned before entering
PipeLne Reclamation Plan
YaN¢e GWch Sodium Minerals Prolen
American Soda, L.L.P.
