Revised Jan. 16, 1985
3.2 LIGHT-USE ROAD
An existing road leased from U.S. Steel to Atlantic Richfield beginning at
the new SH 133 and heading south up Sylvester Gulch will be used to access
the site. SGF-02 shows the existing light-use road that will be used as
well as the 620 foot portion to be re-routed around the fan site. Re-
routing of the road is necessary to allow adequate room for the fan. The
existing road has been maintained and is in good condition. The re-routed
portion of the road will be located on ridges or on the most stable
available slopes to minimize erosion.
• Earthwork to be performed at the fan site (see Drawing SGF-02 and SGF-OS)
will be minor regrading to relocate the road and to construct a berm along
the outside edge of the road. Cut and/or fill will be balanced and should
not exceed three feet in any one location. Compaction of any minor
amounts of fill will be to 90X of standard Proctor density, ASTM Method D-
698. Since no mayor cuts or fills will be carried out, post mining
contour will be essentially the same as presently exists.
The road will be located to have a maximum overall grade not exceeding
8.4% and a maximum pitch grade not to exceed 10.3X The light-use road
will be constructed so as to avoid large growths of vegetation and other
natural obstructions. Ditches will be constructed on the inside cut of
the road and water bars will be constructed as necessary to control
• erosion. The location of the rerouted road will be flagged to enable the
ML RD to inspect the site at least one month prior to construction. See
