. •,
Application of Mulch Anchoring Methods
1. Manufactured Mulch Nettings
follow manufacturer's instructions; however, the following
minimum specifications must be met:
A. Mulch netting vrill be pulled hand tight over straw.
B. Mulch netting will be held firmly in place. (U-shaped
metal pins are commercially available from mulch net
manufacturers for this purpose. They are usually made
of 8 gauge wire and are six inches or longer, in length.)
Pin spacing will be not more than 10 linear feet. If the
soil is sandy or otherwise exceptionally loose, use longer
pins and wooden stakes, as needed, to firmly secure netting.
2. Asphalt
Either of the following asphalt products may be blown on with
the straw, or sprayed or sprinkled after the straw is spread:
A. Liquid asphalt - rapid curing (R.C. 1,2,3) or medium
\ curing (M.C. 2, 3). Liquid asphalt is cut back with a
l kerosene-like product and can be applied in freezing
weather. Normal rate of application is 0.10 gal/sq.yd.
or approximately 500 gal/A,
B. Emulsified asphalt - rapid setting (R,S. 1, 2), medium
setting (M.S. 2) or slow setting (S.S, 1). Emulsified
asphalt contains approximately 50 percent water and
should not be applied in freezing weather. PJormal
rate of application is 0.04 gal/sq.yd, or approximately
Z00 gal/A.
Note:
Rapid setting (R.S.) is formulated for curing in approximately
24 hours even under high humidity conditions. Medium
setting {M.S.) is formulated for use in spring and fall
and approximately 24 hours curing time. Slow setting
(S.S.) is formulated for use during dry, hot weather with
approximately 24 hours curing time. The higher the
number in the formula, the heavier will be the resultant
residue.
i~
