A
!` .
Mr. James B. McArdle
Mined Land Reclamation
May 13, 1982
Page 3
\J
7. Our application states that topsoil stockpiles will be revegetated
if they remain in place longer than one growing season in accordance
with the Soil Conservation Service recommendations. These stockpiles
will be allowed to revegetate naturally or seeded, if required. Those
recommendations are presented in our application under Exhibit AA and ~{<
may be found in the next to last, and last, paragraphs of the letter
dated December 13, 1981 received from Jim Hamilton, District Conserva-
tionist. Should the Soil Conservation Service believe that a recom-
mendation change is required, we intend to comply with that recommenda-
tion.
~,,,~n S
~ ^y oy 8.
-
` To our knowledge, there are no areas within the permit boundaries that
Nv~
ye9 ~
may.
~
y
~ could be classified as wetlands as defined by the U.S. Army Corps of ~k
-a
qP'
p/jQ Engineers.
•f~ 5 .T.
's
9.
~~ r~Aq ~ e ms Although the operator intends to reshape the excavated areas on either
f~cR•
,~c^- side of the St. Vrain Creek, there are no proposed dikes, as such,
o
~ proposed within the 100-year flood plain. The operator does not
intend to do any work within the stream bed. The operator has sub-
mitted a copy of the application along with a set of plans to the O-~
Army Corps of Engineers at their Omaha office. The cover letter
asked them to review this matter and to comment~ck to the Siegrist
Company or to the Mined Land Reclamation Board. A copy of that cover
letter has been submitted to your office. You have received a response
from the Corps stating no permit is necessary from that office.
10. Because of the size of this gravel mine, there will be more than one
location for the plant operation. The plant, scale house, and offices
will be at one of three locations during the course of ,the mining
operation: Location 1 - The south end of the access road to the
north. Location 2 - East of the I-25 Service Road and north of St.
Vrain Creek. Location 3 - East of the Service Road to I-25 and south ~~~
of St. Vrain Creek about mid-way between St. Vrain Creek and the south
boundary of the Siegrist property. Each of these control locations
will consist of approximately one acre for the main control facilities
with 5 acres utilized for the actual crushing, plant site, stockpile
areas and associated roadways. The principle roadways are shown on
the plans which accompany the application.
ll. The plans show an undisturbed buffer strip of 100 feet between the
centerline of St. Vrain Creek and any mine disturbance. The plans
also show that replacement of the overburden material will result in
a buffer zone of from 150 to 200 feet from the centerline of the
stream. Only the east 1/2 mile of the Siegrist property included in
this application is undisturbed at the present time. All other areas
adjacent to the river have been disturbed by previous owners and have,
