Brosdtast seeding among the wttonwood seedlings that have become
established in the topsolied end rnvegetatnd area would protect them
while reseeding.
2. What is the schedule for completion of reclamation now (as opposed to •t
the time this document was wrttten)1
3. 51nce the Inftltratlon capacity of the site has Dean reduced, the storm
retentlon pond may become a sore permanent feature.
a. What are the msximum slopes planned for this pond (they should be
no greater than 3:1)1
b. Are there any special plans for revegetetton of the pond area It-
self and the banks? A smell pond or marshy area could ba valwble
for wildlife.
4. The design of the storm retentlon pond Is not clear, to general. Please
elar(fy this matter.
5. Does Brannan have any data to support the contention that the ftnat
reclamation plan will not cause any reduction of local water supplies
(and therefore water rights of downstream users)1 It ssema that any
water Impounded by the storm retentlon pond would have historically
been available as surface or subsurface runoff from the site. Thus,
the various nearby water courses could be effected by the mining. 1
would suggest that Brannan co~sidar providing either a controlled or
uncontrolled outlet for this pond. Otherwise, tt is probable that
augmentation for the lost water will be required. (However, 1 have
not yet received the review letter from the Division of lJater Resources.
i wilt pass it on to you when ,1 do.)
6. Is the access road to be removed In final rnclamatlon and reciatmedt
Exhibit H
1. Tha Division of Wildttfe has reviewed the application had has no further
cosssents.
2. 1 strongly agree that the cottonwood seedlings presently on the partially
reclaimed area should be protected. They are valwble for fulure wildlife
uses, if any.
3. The storm retentlon pond, with proper design, could provide some small
amount of wildlife habitat. As I mentioned above, 1 will need further
details on this design.
Exhibits 18 J
1. The high salt content of soil sample number 4 comes from the topsolled
area. Does this reflect any general problem with the soil in this erea4
2. The area to the north part of the affected lend that has been topsolled
and marginally reseeded should be reseeded if the perenn)sl grasses are
not dominating the annual weed aasoctattons. Otherwise, there may be •
loss of topaoll due to Incomplete rover. broadcast seeding of grass
species w)thout destroying the cottonwood seedlings would be a poasiblllty
(n this regard.
3. Oohs the 3 to 6 Inches of topsoil to be spread over the rest of the area
represent ell of the available topsoil? This is a rather thin layer to
