• GRASSES <br />ARIZONA FESCUE: FESTUCA ARIZONICA VASEY <br />Arizona fescue is a native perennial bunch grass preferring dry- <br />moist sites from 6,500 to 11,600 feet. It reproduces sexually and is <br />not weedy or poisonous. This plant's growth is rated as good for the <br />type of topsoil reconstructive material to be used in the Moffat Area. <br />It prefers gentle and moderate slopes, but does fair in steep areas. <br />It's erosion control potential is high. Arizona fescue's establishment <br />requirements are medium. The short term revegetation potential is also <br />medium. The long term revegetation potential is high. It's growth <br />habit provides fair cover for game birds and good cover for small <br />• mammals and non-game birds. Small mammal, small non-game bird, elk and <br />deer food value is fair. Forage palatability for cattle is good and for <br />sheep fair. Energy retention is rated fair and protein poor. <br />BEARDLESS WHEATGRASS: AGROPYRON SPICATUM INERME <br />This is a native perennial bunch grass that does well in dry-moist <br />sites. This species is non-weedy and not poisonous. It ranges in the <br />state from 4, 500 to 8, 500 feet . Growth of this wheatgrass in sandy <br />loam, loam and clay loam on gentle to moderate slopes is good. On steep <br />slopes it is fair. Erosion control potential is medium. Establishment <br />requirements are medium. The short term revegetation potential is low <br />and the long term high. The potential biomass production of this grass <br /> is also high. Good cover is provided for game birds, small non-game <br />• birds and small mammals by beardless wheatgrass. Food value for elk, <br />game birds, small non-game birds and small mammals is good.
