1

Both stages will be operated on a demand basis. Normally,
stockpiling of clay at the mine site will occur during a period of
one to three months, once or twice a year. IVhen this type of clay is
required by the brick plant, the clay will be loaded into trucks by
front-end loaders and hauled to the plants. Hauling operations normally
occur intermittently on a year-round basis.
' Each stage is expected to last from 20 to 40 years. Topsoil and
overburden fiom the first location disturbed will be removed prior to
mining and will be segregated and stockpiled separately for reclamation.
During the initial period of mining in each stage, an area large
' enough to contain both the mining process and product stockpiles will
be cleared of soil and overburden. The segregated soil and overburden
will be stockpiled in perimeter areas. As mining moves into new
undisturbed areas, the waste material and topsoil being removed will
be used to backfill, slope and resoil the mined out areas without
interim stockpiling. The amount of land disturbed and unreclaimed will
be kept to a minimum. Upon completion of the excavation of each stage,
' the original stockpiled topsoil and overburden will be used to complete
reclamation.
' Limited stockpiling area at the brick plants requires establishment
of a stockpile sufficient to furnish the prick pants with enough clay for
' approximately six months to one year. An adequate amount of clay will
be stockpiled at the mine during the excavation periods in each stage to
' fill that requirement.
Equipment to be used includes, but is not limited to, bulldozers
' with rippers, scrapers, backhoes and front-end loaders. Dust generated on haul roads can
' be controlled effectively by water spraying.

1 8
