Three 100m transects were placed in representative areas <br />of each of the following vegetation types on the study area. <br />1, Upland sagebrush <br />2. Grassland pasture <br />An additional transact was established in a small riparian area on the north- <br />east edge of the study area (Map 11-1, Appendix A). 'P..o Sherman live traps <br />were placed at each lOm interval along each transact. Traps were baited with <br />a peanut butter, cracked corn, rolled oats, la~con fat mixture and checked <br />for four consecutive nights. All traps were provided with dacron-fiber <br />batting to awid animal loss due to hypothermia. All individuals captured <br />• were toe-clipped and recorded according to species, sex, age (juvenile or <br />adult) , reproductive status (active or inactive) , and location and then <br />released. <br />AVIFAUNA STUDIES <br />Four different crong~onents of the avifauna were studied: <br />1. Passerine birds <br />2. Raptorial birds <br />3. Upland game birds <br />4.
