• information was solicited frcm the following sources:
1. Colorado Division of Wildlife (DGW) - ga:e animal and raptor distri-
bution, big game critical areas and population tre:.cis, threatened
and endangered species sightings, importa:.ce of projecr area to
sport hunting, etc.
2. Peabody Coal Ccynpany -wildlife data sutmitted in support of mine
permits near the study area.
3. Colorado State University (CSU), University of P7ya;.ing (in4); Depart-
ments of Zoology and Wildlife Management -wildlife information for
the area gathered in ,support of theses, dissertations or other
University research.
4. In-house library - a considerable volu-ne of both p'~wlished and
~;npublished ecological information for western Colorado has been
amassed as a result of our involvement in large-scale ecological
baseline studies in the area.
In addition, biologists working for state and federal agencies a:.d
private industry in the area were interviewed to de',a'rtiine the avail-
ability of site-specific ecological information.
The existing, site-specific wildlife information was reviewed for its
relevance in describing baseline wildlife conditions for the project
area. .S~ pertinent wildlife data were utilized to. the rra~cirum degree to
avoid duplication of effort in tze present baseline program and to supple-
ment observatons and data gathered on-site during the course of field
studies. Data gathered over a period of years are particularly important
in developing predictions of population dynamics and seasonal patterns
of distribution of un,-~ortant biota. Such data are ca;~Y,ined with infor-
mation gathered during the study to provide the most accurate possible
• description of baseline wildlife conditions for the project site.
-4-
~uN i i ~9ea
