r 1
L
I •
6.2 POTENTIAL STEVENS GULCH ALLUVIAL VALLEY FLOOR
In our opinion, the alluvial valley adjoining the CWI
well field, indicated on Plate 3. of this report, should not
be designated as an AVF. Although the. area is underlain by
unconsolidated, stream-laid deposits, there are several reasons
to exclude the area from the AVF_designation. They are:
1. Ground water depth measurements, shown on Plate 4,
indicate that the. area identified is not sub irrigated for a
sufficient period of the year to support agricultural activities
(2.06.8.(3)(iv)).
2. Visual reconnaissance for the presence of subir-
rigated indicator species (Appendix B-2) concludes that sub-
irrigated indicator species are confined to the extreme channel
bottom areas along the gulch (4 to 5 feet on either side of the
channel). The remaining parts of the area are apparently non-
subirrigated (2.06.8(3)(iv)).
3. The evaluation of the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservationist
(Appendix B) indicates that, although the soils are suited to
all the crops commonly grown in the survey area, it is not
likely to be used for intensive cultivated crops because of
the elevation (7,700 ft.) and the short growing season. The
evaluation is confirmed by the discussion with the owner, pre-
sented in the text of the report (2.06.8.(3)(v)).
- 20 -
cEaNVOao coruu~nr~, iNC.
