Colorado Westmoreland Inc. -2-
(3) Terror Creek:

The creek bottom is very narrow and has not been delineated seperately from
the steep hill-side slopes on either side of the creek,
Four soil mapping units cover the major reaches of Terror Creek. They are
identified in the Paonia Area Soil Survey, January 1981, as:
70 - Saraton-Aqua Fria complex on 20 to 50°: slopes (lower one-fifth of
the creek).
75 - Torriorthent s-Rock outcrop, sandstone, complex on slopes ranging from
20 to 70X. (One t o two mile section of the creek upstream from the
Saraton-Aqua Fria complex).
39 - Fughes loam on 25 to 65'~ slopes.
34 - Delson very stony loam on 20 to 60" slopes (the upper reaches of the
creek).
This area has been used for grazing and wildlife and has no potential for
cultivation.
(4) East and {5) West Roatcap:
The creek bottoms of each of these two creeks are very narrow and each one
has been mapped with the soil series identified on the steep side hills
into the draw bottoms. The bottoms were not delineated.
Two major soil series dominate both drainages. They are identified in the
Paonia Area Soil Survey as:
33 - Delson stony loam on 3 to 20X slopes.
34 - Delson very stony -loam on 20 to 60X slopes.
These soils are mainly stony alluvium and colluvium formed nn lower mountain
side slopes.
There is another soil series, 22 - Cerro stony loam on 10 to 35X slopes,
Which appears where the two creeks come together. This soil is glacial out-
wash in old land slides. This is used for grazing, wildlife and recreational
purposes. It has no potential for cultivation.
Another soil, 75 - Torriorthents - Rock outcrop, sandstone, complex on slopes
ranging from 20 to 70X slopes appears in the lower reach of Roatcap Creek,
below the confluence of East and West Roatcaps.
Oak brush dominates the vegetation along with service berry, big sagebrush
and native grasses, perennial weeds and fortis. Tinges of cottonwood and
aspen line the creek bottom proper in the upper reaches of the drainages.
I n.
X
