• PERMEABILITY TESTS
Permeability tests were performed on "undisturbed"
samples of the flood plain material taken from boring BH-2.
These tests give a measure of the natural permeability of the
in situ soils. A total of three tests were performed on
samples of silt and fine sand from a depth between 3 to 14 feet.
Permeability tests results are presented in Table L-2.
SWELL-CONSOLIDATION TESTS
Consolidation tests were performed on one "undisturbed"
sample to evaluate the compressibility and behavior upon
saturation of the soils in situ. The tests results are pre-
sented on Plate 7, Swell Consolidation Test Results.

TRIAXIAL C02~RESSIVE STRENGTH
Consolidated undrained triaxial compression tests with
pore pressure measurements (TX-CU/PP) were performed on un-
disturbed samples of the alluvial silts and clays which will
underlie the pile. The tests were performed to evaluate the
shear strength parameters of these materials. The tests were
run with varying confining pressures to simulate the range of
confining stresses which might arise in the foundation beneath
the waste rock pile. The samples were saturated and consolidated
at the assigned confining pressure prior to testing. Measure-
ment of pore pressures during testing enables effective as well
as total stress parameters to be calculated. Test results are
presented on Plates 8 and 9.
