Our findings arc as follows : <br /> Flcld Invest ln.itl(in : Six exploratory holes »ere drilled at the Ir)catinns <br /> shown to -Fin- --; [h a 4 Inch diameter continuous flight power aurler to <br /> determine the general subsoil and ground water conditions . The Ioq; of <br /> the exploratory holes are presented In FIr7. 2 . Olsturbed samples of the <br /> granular soils encountered were taken. Test pits were excavated by <br /> backhoe at the locations of Test Holes 2 and 5 to obtain representative <br /> samples of the send and gravel stratum. <br /> Subsoll InvestI gatIon : Subsoils at the site were erratic. In gene.rai , <br /> they consisted of 0 to 9 feet of soft , Sandy cliy and/or 0 to 9 feet <br /> Of clean sand overlying sand and gravel with the exception of Test hole I . <br /> In Test Hole 1 , the sand and gravel stratum was not encountered. In <br /> general , the depth to the sand and gravel stratum varied from 5 [0 10 feet <br /> across the site . The sand and gravel stratum varied from 12 to 27 feet <br /> In total thickness . With the exception of Test Hole I where no ground <br /> water was encountered , free water ranged from 8 to II fact below the <br /> existing ground surface at the time of our Investigation . <br /> Laborator T�c;ting ; The standard properties of loth the sands and the <br /> san ad nd gravel stratum were determined in the laloratory. These are <br /> presented In Flgs . 3 through 5 attached . The specific gravity , Los Angeles <br /> abrasion and sodium sulfate soundness were conducted On a typical sample <br /> of sand and gravel stratum. These results are presented In Table I with <br /> the exception of the sodium sulfate soundness te5t which Is not yet <br /> completed .
