At the Parachute Site, the gasoline and diesel tanks will be
located just south the water treatment (softener) building.
More information, such as the thickness of concrete floors or pads, berm construction,
floor slope, and floor coatings will be provided in the final Response Plan. More
detailed storage and handling procedures will also be provided in the final Response
Plan.
MSDSs for significant materials will be carefully reviewed prior to the finalization of
facility design. Several significant materials that American Soda plans to use on site
may be incompatible with each other, and thus will not be stored in adjacent locations.
There are also "conditions to avoid" sections on MSDSs that describe storage area
characteristic, such as moisture levels and temperature. Flammable materials may be
required to be stored in areas with fire doors and explosion-proof lighting. American
Soda will review and comply with all of these requirements.
6.2 Fire Hazards
The following are potential fire hazards that will be associated with the Yankee Gulch
Project. Amore comprehensive review will be performed prior to startup of
commercials operations.
Natural Gas Suppl, Lines
6-inch underground natural gas pipelines will serve as the primary fuel source for both
the Piceance and Parachute Sites. Smaller natural gas lines will feed equipment that
will be located at each site. If the pipes were to rupture or leak and an ignition source
were present, a gas fire could result.
Diesel and Unleaded Gasoline
One diesel fuel and one unleaded gasoline tank will be installed at both the Piceance
and Parachute Sites. The volume of each tank will be approximately 500 gallons.
Spilled fuel or fuel vapors could ignite if exposed to an ignition source.
Natural Gas-Fired Equipment
Natural gas-fired equipment that will be located at either the Piceance or Parachute
Sites is as follows:
Boilers Piceance Site and Parachute Site
Space heaters Piceance Site and Parachute Site
ZO
Preliminary Response Plan
Yankee Gulch Sodmm Minerals Project
American Soda, L.L.P.
