<br />6.0 SIGNIFICANT SOURCE ASSESSMENT <br />Several types of events could occur at the Piceance or Parachute Sites that would <br />require an emergency response. The types of events covered under this plan include <br />releases of significant materials and fire hazards. Other events such as bomb threats <br />and severe weather will be covered in the final Response Plan. <br />6.1 Significant Materials <br />"Significant materials" is the term American Soda uses to define materials that might be <br />harmful to human health or the environment. The many terms that are used for similar <br />materials are listed below: <br />• Term R~ulation <br />• Hazardous Chemical OSHA <br />• Hazardous Substance CERCLA <br />• Toxic Chemical SARA 302 <br />• Extremely Hazardous Substance SARA 303 <br />• Hazardous Material DOT <br />• Hazardous Waste RCRA <br />The definition of an OSHA Hazardous Chemical is so broad that a list is not provided in <br />the OSHA regulations. A list containing CERCLA Hazardous Substances, SARA Toxic <br />Chemicals, and SARA Extremely Hazardous Substances is provided in Appendix F. <br />DOT Hazardous Materials are described in 49CFR172.101 and 102.
