• 4. The initial start-up for each operating season will be done with
only CO and oxygen monitoring personnel in that portion of the
mine ventilated by that split of air. At least 4 hours of
monitoring every 30 minutes shall elapse, with the CO content
never exceeding 30 ppm and no oxygen deficiency detected, before
other personnel are permitted to enter that part of the mine.
5. The air will be sampled every 30 minutes for another 20 hours
for CO level and oxygen deficiency.
6. If after monitoring for 24 hours the CO concentration at no time
exceeds 30 ppm and no oxygen deficiency is detected, the CO
content will be monitored at least every 4 hours while the
heater is operating and men are in the mine.
7. A log will be kept of all required CO and oxygen checks.
8. If after the first 24 hours the CO.level at any time reaches 50
ppm, CMH&S will be notified immediately and the heater removed
from service.
9. When restarting the heater during the operating season, checks
for CO wi 11 be made hourly for the first four hours following
the restart. If the mine is idle, the four hourly checks may be
. made the first four hours the mine is back to work.
10. The CO does not need to be monitored when the mine is idle. It
is to be checked during the preshift examination following an
idle shift.
11. Continuous monitors may be used. If hooked to an alarm, they
can be used for any of the above mentioned checks. Continuous
monitors will be checked daily when the mine is operating. A
log shall be. kept at the monitor of the inspection of the
continuous monitor.
K. AUXILARY FANS
1. Fans shall be examined once every four hours for proper
operation and recirculation. The examiner shall place his
initials, date, and time in a book provided on the fan. The
examiner shall be provided with appropriate equipment to
properly check for recirculation and air quantity.
2. Fans shall be installed in the return air current from the place
to be ventilated by the fan, and the volume of intake air
delivered to the working place prior to the fan being started
shall be greater than the volume of air the fan will produce in
• the current set-up.
-7-
