5. Work benches shall be kept free of extraneous <br />materials. <br />6. When operating infernal combust ton engines <br />in the Shop, make Sure the exhaust is vented to the <br />outside or provitle ample ventilation. <br />7. When loads are raised from the floor by over <br />head cranes, proper cribbing shall be installed under <br />the load before any work is begun on equipment. In <br />no case shall persons walk or work under a suspended <br />load. <br />8. Only qualified persons shall operate a hoist or <br />crane. <br />9. $tandartl crane signals shall be used. <br />10. When working on electrical equipment iii the <br />shop, the plug must be pulled and tagged or the circuit <br />breaker turned tiff and tagged. <br />11. Oo not point cpmpressed air at any person. <br />12. When using rompressed au to clean, always use <br />goggles. Any person in the immediate area shall also <br />wear eye protection, <br />13. Keep aisles and work areas free of estrarieous <br />materials and debris. <br />14. Heavy objects shall not be stored in a leaning <br />position against walls or beams. <br />15. Walkways, steps of ladders, and all surfaces <br />where an opcrat or muss walk shall be kept Tree nl od, <br />grease, mud, and ice. <br />16. When parking in obile equipment, the wheels shall <br />be blocked or turned into a berm or embankment and <br />the bra kes set. <br />SHOVELS <br />1. Except during instruction by a 4ualif ietl person, <br />shovels shall be operated by trained personnel only. <br />2. Shovels shall be inspected by a competent person <br />before operation and any defects affecting safety shall <br />he reported and corrected promptly. <br />Page 26 <br />3. The standard signals to be used on all shovels are. <br />Stop ...............One Horn Blast <br />Start .... ........ ..Two Horn Blasts <br />Watch Oiler ........ Throe Horn Blasts <br />4. Alter any interruption in operation, the operator <br />must signal that he is about to star) the machine. The <br />operator will not start the machine until she oiler <br />checks and clears the machine and gives the acknow- <br />ledgementsignal. <br />5. Persons wishing to mount or dismount a shovel <br />shall notdy the operator or Oder. The opal ator or oiler <br />shall watch to see that all persons are in the clear <br />before continuing the operation. <br />6, When mounting or dismounting a shovel, always <br />face the latlder. <br />7. Shovels shall neither be operated nor travel on <br />unstable ground. <br />B. The Operator shall Idce the direct ion of travel, <br />and die oiler or other authorized persons shall be on <br />the ground Io direct the move. <br />g, Shovels shall be placed in a stationary post lion <br />with locked brakes to perfprm any type of lu bncation <br />or maintenance in hazardous areas. <br />10. Rubber gloves tested to 20.000 volts shall 6e <br />worn when handling energized high-voltage cables. <br />11. No person shall drive over unprotected power <br />cablr.. <br />12. When ropes are used to move power cable, there <br />Shall be Iwo rope lit-Offs not less than three feel apart. <br />13. The bucket shall be lowered to the 9r ound when <br />+ the operator leaves the machine. <br />14.
