TIPPLE <br />1. Except during instruction by a qualified person, <br />the tipple shall be operated by trained personnel only, <br />Instruction on the opera ion of the prep-plant shall <br />include safe-operating procedures arou ntl conveyor <br />systems. <br />2. Good housekeeping shall be practiced in and <br />around the plant. <br />3. All moving parts shall be guarded. Conveyor Uelts <br />should be equipped either with emergency stop cords <br />or guarded. <br />4. Shovels, hoes, or Ilat blatles will not be usetl to <br />scrape rollers or idlers while in motion. Belts shall he <br />shut down and locked out for scraping on rollers or <br />idlers. <br />5. Where a hazard exists Irom material falling from <br />a conveyor belt, bin, or walkway, signs shall be posted <br />warning p( the tlanger. <br />6, Where excessive dust is in suspension, respiratory <br />protection Shall be usetl by all employees in the affec- <br />ted area, and methods devised to allay the dust at the <br />source. <br />7. Persons working in the vicinity of the crusher, <br />leader, or any place wher¢ a hazard exists from !lying <br />particles shall wear adequate eye prptection. <br />8. No person shall ride on a moving conveyor or <br />belt at any time. <br />9. Before a conveyor is started, an audible signal <br />shall be given for 30 secontls to warn persons in that <br />vicinity. <br />10. No person shall cross over a conveyor unless a <br />regular crossover is provided or th¢ conveyor controls <br />are locketl out and tagged. <br />11. Flee protection shall be available and the em- <br />ployees trained in its use. <br />12. De-energize, lock-out, and tag equipment before <br />performing maintenance or entering an unguarded <br />hazardous area such as bell conveyors and crushers. <br />Page 28 <br />13. A methane test shall be performed before the <br />start of each shift. <br />14. Before welding, cutting, or any use of open <br />:lame, the area must be Tree of dust and flammable <br />mat F.IIa15 and a methane test must He taken by a qua- <br />ified person. A fire extingmsher must be within reach. <br />15. Steps of ladders and ntl surlacas where an <br />operator must walk shall be kept Tree of oil, greasq <br />mud, and ice. <br />16. Before entry into any bin or hopper. make sure <br />you have a life line as Cached and a supervisor is pre- <br />sent. <br />WELDING AND CUTTING <br />1. Welders' clothing must he kept Iree of excessive <br />oil, grease, and other Ilammable substances. <br />2. All oxygen and acetylene hoses shall he rePai retl <br />with Proper hose clamps and connections. <br />3. Each welder shall have a pw tabl¢ fire extin- <br />guisher near at hand for lire protection while any <br />welding, cueing. or heating Is being done. <br />q, Any defective welding leads or ground cables <br />shall he properly repaireQ and any exposed wiring <br />shall be adequately insulated. <br />5. Each area where welding, cutting, or heating is <br />to he performetl shall be examined for passible fire <br />harards. Any accumul al4n ns of combustible materials <br />shall be removed or protected prior to beginninn <br />torch or elecu ical welding work. <br />6. Torches and blpwpipes shall be ligh retl only w~Ih <br />an aPPrpved fnctiomly Pe lighter. <br />A <br />7. Acetylene line gauge pressure span not exceed 15 <br />PSI. <br />S. All welding hoses shall be coiled and hung in a <br />sate manner when welding operations arc terminated. <br />9. All empty gas cylinders shall be returned to the <br />proper Storage area wnh Caps intact.
