5.1.5.3 Flood irrigation
Most of South Canyon could be flood irrigated. Whether the area
could be farmed efficiently is not known. Significant removal of
natural vegetation would be required for any farming operation.
Historic flood irrigation was not observed, but a few surface water
rights are indicated in the upper reaches of the creek which are
used primarily for livestock watering (Table 3.3.1 and Figure 3.3-
5) .
5.1.5.4 Land Use
South Canyon is presently being used for recreation, access to the
Garfield County Dump, limited residential sites, and limited
grazing.
5.1.5.5 Water Yield
•
Water yield data is not available from South Canyon Creek.
5.1.5.6 Soils
Soils information is not available from this drainage.
5.1.5.7 Subirrigation
Subirrigation of vegetation along the active channel is probably
common. Because of the narrow valley and lack of significant
terraces above creek level, much of the valley floor is probably
subject to Subirrigation.
5.1.6 Summarv
Some of the important qualifying criteria for an AVF are:
•
NCEC - Coal Ridge #1 5-8 ABC/1145/900301
