• 1) Adequate water supplies for subirrigation and/or flood irrigation
2) Suitable soils for agricultural practices
3) Historic use
In light of these criteria, the significance of these AVF's ranges from very significant (Colorado
River), to significant (Alkali Creek), to least significant (South Canyon Creek) . In considering
the proposed operations, the critical issue with respect to these AVF's will be the impact to the
hydrologic balance of each drainage. Since there will be no surface disturbance in either the
Alkali Creek or South Canyon Creek drainage, other than possibly vents and escape routes,
the impact will be zero. Because of the nature of the operation, the impact to the Colorado
River AVF will be minimal. Detailed discussion of the impacts to the hydrologic balance is found
in Section 4.4.3.
5.2 Detailed AVF Description
5.2.1 Introduction
The DMG has preliminarily determined that the Colorado River area, in and adjacent to the
permit area, will be considered an Alluvial Valley Floor (AVF). Therefore, additional detailed
information is required to adequately define and characterize the hydrologic functions. Due to
the isolation of South Canyon creek from the mine area, detailed information on the AVF is not
required. Additionally, due to the minimal potential of adverse impact to the Alkali AVF the DMG
determined preliminary information supplied was adequate.
•
NCIG -Coal Ridge No. 1 5-9 5/00
