1.2. Objectives
• Two general objectives addressed in this report are: 1) to utilize
geomorphic analysis to determine if existing topography at the Eckman
Park Mine deviates significantly from the approved post-mining
topography, and 2) to utilize engineering and geomorphic analysis to
assess the stability of existing topography relative to the approved
topography.
The first objective is designed to determine whether AOC has been
achieved by the regrading process at Eckman Park Mine. Documented
geomorphic procedures will be used to develop quantitative measures of
existing and approved topographic characteristics. Statistical methods
will be used to determine the significance of any differences between
these characteristics, and thus whether AOC has been achieved.
• The second objective will address the relative stability of existing
versus approved topography. Geomorphic and engineering criteria can be
used to reveal differences in the erosive power of streamflow between
existing and approved topography. In addition, comparison of adjacent
unmined area topography with existing topography is made.
1.3. Procedure and Analysis
Field work on the mine and adjacent areas was performed on September
15-17, 1986. Hillslope and channel gradients were surveyed using an
electronic distance measuring theodolite. Bed sediment samples were
collected from drainage ways for use in engineering calculation of
incipient motion and sediment transport. Unmined areas were examined to
•
3
