determine the nature of channel and hillslope formation in natural
• undisturbed areas.
The majority of drainage basin measurements were made from
topographic maps supplied by CYCC. Specifically, Map-49TR, Map 48 and
Map *8 - TR-2 depict approved post-mining topography for the mine. A
five foot contour map of the existing topography with recent revisions
showing updated area 9/10 topography was also provided by CYCC.
Measurements of hillslope and channel gradient, drainage area, and
channel profiles were taken from these maps. A set of 1970 aerial
photographs, furnished by CYCC, aided in delineation of the drainage
network.
Drainage areas were measured with a planimeter and channel distances
were measured with a chartometer (map wheel). Hillslope and channel
• gradient were measured by scaling off the distance between adjacent 25
foot contours along a line perpendicular to the contours.
•
4
