SECTI®N Vffi: S%G1V C®YDE <br />8.1 F>r]II2P®SE®SE <br />The Sign Code is intended to provide for appropriate public communication through the <br />case of signs. A balance is sought between the need or desire for visibility of signs <br />relative to traffic safety, economic stability and the need to maintain the natural mountain <br />setting. <br />H.2 SC®PE <br />This Regulation shall govern all outdoor signs within the county including, but not <br />limited to, commercial, public, private and other uses, in all zoning districts and <br />designated resource azeas in the County, unless exempted within Section 8.4.F below. <br />8.3 DEFIPTIlT'd®NS <br />A. Sign A "sign" is an object or device or any part thereof situated outdoors <br />which is used to advertise, identify, display, duect or attract the attention of a <br />pedestrian or motorist to an object, place, person, institution, organization, <br />business, product, service, event, activity or location by any means, including <br />words, letters, figures, symbols, illustrations, photographs, designs, logos, <br />fixtures, colors, ill,,.ni„ation or projected images. <br />B. Permanent. A "permanent sign" is a sign that is securely attached to a <br />structure or the earth by some form of fastener. <br />C. Temroorarv. A "temporary sign" is a sign that is not permanently attached to a <br />structure or the earth by some form of fastener. <br />D. Size. The size of a sign shall be measured as the area of the smallest rectangle <br />encompassing the sign facing, including copy, insignia, background and borders. <br />Signs may be two sided and the size limitations apply to one side, unless specified <br />otherwise. <br />E. Freestanding Sian. A freestanding sign is any sign being supported on itself or <br />on a standazd or legs which is struchaally sepazate firm the building. <br />F. Buildine Mounted Sitm. A building mounted sign is any sign painted on, <br />incorporated in or affixed to the building wall, or any sign consisting of cut-out <br />letters or devices affixed to the building wall with no background defined on the <br />building wall. Hanging and projecting signs shall not project more than twenty <br />(20) inches from the exterior wall on which it is mounted. <br />Gilpin Cdunty Zoning Regulations 43 <br />
