eh
ESPEY, HUSTON b ASSOCIATES, INC.

Since ceasing operation, the entrance to the mine has collapsed and currently
extends approximately 10 feet into the hillside.
The Rienau No. 1 (G-Seam) underground mine was operated on federal
coal lease D-04240 (NWy.SE'/., Sec. 29, T2N, R93W), immediately opposite the
existing Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine owned by Northern Coal Company. The
Rienau No. 1 (G-seam) was operated intermittently between 1933 and 1965, when it
was closed for roof problems probably associated with the room-and-pillaz design.
Coal was mined from the G seam, in the Williams Fork Formation with a total
production recorded by the USGS of 123,025 tons. Projection of the subsurface to
surface azea of this mine shows the mine to have been about 7.59 acres in size. The
lessee of, record and operator of the Rienau No. 1 (G-Seam) Mine was William
Jenkins, Jr.
The Rienau No. 2 (G-Seam) Mine is currently operated by Northern Coal
Company on federal lease C-076713 (NE3:SW~, Sec. 29, T2N, R93W)• This mine was
first opened in 1966, also in the G seam, and is immediately opposite the Rienau
No. 1 (G-seam) Mine on the west side of State Highway 13/789• Because modifi-
cations to the mine aze included as part of this application, they will not be
discussed further here.
The FF seam is no longerbeing mined (at the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam)
Mine) on coal lands privately owned by Phillip Jensen, et al• The mine is located in
NEYSE%, Section 21, Township 2 North, Range 93 West, 6th P.M. under an approved
CMLRB permit No. 79-9, dated May 31, 1979.
There aze no active, inactive or abandoned surface mine areas within or
adjacent to the mine plan azea.

`~, V
~a,
C~
F-19
