subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable,
• slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few fine and medium
roots; strongly effervescent; few fine seams and threads
of lime; moderately alkaline (pH B.0); clear smooth
boundary.
Cr (14-18") - Light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) partially de-
composed sandstone, yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) moist;
violently effervescent; common fine seams, masses and
threads of lime; moderately alkaline.
Range in Characteristics: Depth to the base of the argillic
horizon is B to 15 inches. Depth to visible lime accumulation is
8 to 12 inches. The texture in all horizons ranges from sandy loam
to sandy clay loam. Depth to bedrock is 10 to 20 inches.
Setting: Manburn soils occur on nearly level to gently
sloping uplands, slope is 2 to 6 percent. They are primarily
redisual developing from underlying sandstone and shale.
Type Location: 750 feet east, 275 feet south of the northwest
• corner Section 11, TSN, R76W.
Satanka fine sandy loam, 3 to 10 percent slopes (4)
Satanka soils are moderately deep and are found on moderately
sloping uplands. They are of wide extent throughout the study area
over calcareous, coarse-grained sandstone. Small areas of deep
Forelle and Ryan Park soils were included in mapping.
The Satanka series is a member of the fine-loamy, mixed family
of Borollic Haplargids. Typically, Satanka soils have brown, very
friable sandy loam A horizons with crumb structure; yellowish brown,
hard, sandy loam B horizons with subangular blocky structure; and
light brownish gray, slightly hard, sandy loam C horizons.

-7-
