Al (0-6") pale brown (lOYR 6/3) sandy loam, dark brown (lOYR <br />4/3) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very <br />• friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many fine and medium <br />roots; 5 percent gravel; neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />B1 (6-10") brown (lOYR 5/3) heavy sandy loam, dark brown (lOYR <br />4/3) moist; weak medium subangular block}• structure part- <br />ing to medium granular; slightly hard, very friable, non- <br />sticky and nonplastic; many fine and medium roots; 5 <br />percent gravel; a few thin patchy clay films on peds; <br />neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />B2t (10-26") light olive brown (2.SY 5/4) sandy clay loam, olive <br />brown (2.SY 4/4) moist; moderate medium prismatic structure <br />parting to medium subangular blocky; very hard, friable, <br />slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few medium and many <br />fine roots; 5 percent gravel; thin patchy clay films on <br />peds, in pores, and on coarse fragments; mildly alkaline <br />gradual wavy boundary. <br />Baca (26-30") light olive brown (2.SY S/4) light sandy clay loam, <br />olive brown (2.SY 4/4) moist; weak medium prismatic structure <br />parting to medium subangular blocky; very hard, friable, <br />slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few fine roots; 5 <br />percent gravel; few thin patchy clay films on peds; second- <br />ary calcium carbonate as nodules, seams, and coatings on <br />gravel; slightly calcareous; moderately alkaline; gradual <br />wavy boundary. <br />• Cca (30-60") light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/4) sandy loam, light <br />olive brown (2.SY 5/4) moist; massive; slightly hard, very <br />friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 5 percent gravel; second- <br />ary calcium carbonate as concretions, thin seams, streaks, <br />and coatings on gravel; strongly calcareous; moderately <br />alkaline. <br />Range in Characteristics: The profile is 5 to 20 percent, by <br />volume, coarse fragments. Depth to uniformly calcareous material <br />ranges from 15 to 30 inches. The A horizon is neutral or mildly <br />alkaline. The B2t horizon is neutral to moderately alkaline. The <br />calcium carbonate equivalent of the Cca horizon ranges from about <br />3 percent to 10 percent. The C horizon is moderately alkaline or <br />strongly alkaline. <br />Setting: In the permit area this soil follows old upland <br />drainages. <br />• <br />-17- <br />
