Type Location: This soil was not sampled by Wyoming Fuel
• Company as it will not be affected by mining. The SCS type
location is as follows:
Representative profile of Fleutsch sandy loam in an area
of Fleutsch-Tiagos association in native grass, near center
of NEnNW; Section 14, T.9N., R.79W.
EVALUATION OF TOPSOIL RESOURCES
Suitability ratings in Table 3E provide a guide for evaluating
soil resources for topsoil stripping, stockpiling and replacing
suitable topsoil materials. The ensueing discussion provides an
evaluation of the soil resources to be affected by mining activities.
Emphasis is placed on those mapping units which have limiting
factors regarding their use as topsoil. All other mapping units
are within the fair to good limits of the standards presented on
Table 3E.
Topsoil Stripping
•
Topsoil stripping has been completed in the area of Pit 1.
The recommended stripping depths for Forelle, Manburn and Satanka
and Blackhall soils were followed (see Figure 2E). Topsoil from
Pit 1 has been stockpiled in Topsoil Stockpile 1, Figure 2, Mining
and Reclamation Plan.
Topsoil stripping in the area of Pit 2 will begin in July,
1981. Soils to be affected by mining during the life of Pit 2,
will be Manburn, Spicerton, Unnamed Alluvium, Tiagos and Morset.
Topsoil stripping sequence for these soils is presented on Figure
lE. Based on chemical and physical analyses of these soils only
Spicerton and Manburn have limitations for stripping to a depth
of five feet.
•
-18-
