surface drains from the two gravel extraction sites at the
East Rigden property to the extraction site on the Baum-
gartner parcel. With an approximate lake overflow elevation
of 4846 feet, the total lake surface can be minimized at 50
to 60 acres. The lake will occupy nearly all of the Baumgartner
parcel. This drain will be approximately 15 feet deep and will
extend across the Morrison property. Since the shale contours
appear to dip in the southeasterly direction, it will be nec-
essary to construct the drain from the southeastern corner of
the excavation on the East Rigden parcel and probably along
County Road 40. A culvert will have to be constructed in
addition under the Colorado and Southern Railroad connecting
the two excavations on the East Rigden property. This alter-
native will cause the greatest impact on ground water in the
vicinity, an impact similar to the impact during excavation.
Another alternative is to refill the excavation with other
material. Resulting impacts on the ground water system are
impossible to determine without knowing something about the
material to be used.
Since the largest of the excavated areas on the East Rigden
parcels is presently outside the limits of the 100-year flood
plain, it may be possible to reclaim the site with an industrial
or similar use. During the 100-year flood, it is the Colorado
and Southern Railroad that protects this property from inundation.
The property could be graded to elevations higher than exist
G-13
