floodway. All sites are within the flood plain of the standard
project flood.
An area of overland flooding exists on the Morrison property
south of the Colorado and Southern Railroad tracks as shown on
the Flood Plain Map. In this area, flooding is expected to be
less than 1 foot in depth and flood elevations do not correspond
with elevations shown on the Corps of Engineers' flood profile.
Flooding is caused by overtopping of the railroad, and water
travels overland south and southwest to meet the backwater
flooding below the railroad.
On the East Rigden property, the proposed gravel excavation site
north of the railroad will not change the flood plain but will
likely increase the limits of the floodway. Gravel excavation
may also increase the likelihood of channel relocation during
a major flood. For the East Rigden site below the railroad
tracks, excavation for gravel will enlarge the limits of the 100-
year flood plain to the limits of the gravel excavation. The
limits of the floodway will not be changed. Excavation for
gravel at the Baumgartner site would not change the limits
of the flood plain but the 100-year floodway would likely
Reclamation Plan
In order to minimize the extent of open lake surface after the
mining operation, the option of permanent drainage of the exca-
vation sites can be explored. It would be possible to construct
G-12
