Page 2 ~~~
Mr. Thomas Schreiner
September 14, 2000
6. It is estimated that the overburden will be used as follows:
a. 75,000 cubic yards to raise the elevation of the 9.5 acre pod 5 processing area,
b. silts will be used to fill the 7 acres of wetland benches to finish contours,
c. 465,000 cubic yards to backfill and grade the 15,156 lineaz feet of shoreline
d. The remainder of the overburden will be sold.
The applicant will obtain approval of all required permits from the Office of the State
Engineer prior [o exposing groundwater and/or dewatering at the Milliken Site.
The proposed ponds will be sealed with a slurry trench. The location of the trench is
indicated on the mining plan. We have included a representative cross section of the slurry
trench, design standards and a narrative of the construction methods to be used to install the
slurry trench.
EXHIBIT E -RECLAMATION PLAN
9. The operator estimates the volume of topsoil that will be maintained on-site for reclamation
[o be 400,000 tons. The acreage of top soiled areas that will be revegetated with a grass
seed mix is estimated to be approximately eight acres.
10. The "Shoreline Reclamation Revegeta[ion" cross-section on the reclamation plan shows the
slope will vary with a 4:1 or shallower slope for the wetland benches.
11. The applicant anticipates the plant life on the wetland benches will be volunteer growth.
We estimate a contingent revegetation plan will cost approximately $450/acre. The
contingent wetland seed mix would include:
COMMON NAME SCIENTIFIC NAME VARIETY % OF
MIX PLS
APPLICATIO
N RATE
(Ibs/acre)
prairie cordgrass Spartina pectinate native 25 4.0
western wheatgrass Pascopyrum smithii Arriba, 20 3.2
alkali sacaton Sporobolus airoides Barton 10 1.6
fowl bluegrass Poa palustris 15 2.4
managrass Glycera striate 10 1.6
american sloughgrass Beckmannia 10 1.6
marsh sunflower syzigachne 5 0.7
blue vervain Helianthus nuttallii 5 0.8
Verbena hastata
TOTAL (Ibs/acre) 15.9
