• will occur in this 30 foot buffer zone. Topsoil stockpiles
will be clearly labeled with signs to avoid any disturbance prior
to use for reclamation. Long term topsoil stockpiles that will
remain for more than 2 years will be graded and quick seeded to
minimize erosion. All topsoil stockpiles will be inspected for
erosion and maintained as needed. Proposed topsoil stockpiles
are located on the mining plan map.
Mining equipment will then be moved into the area to commence the
mining process. The sand and gravel will be mined utilizing
scrapers, bulldozers, loaders and graders. Mining will occur
only within the delineated 5 acre (or less) area and in areas
where topsoil has been removed. In most areas excavation will
not exceed 25 or 30 feet. In some areas, however, material will
be removed to depths up to 40 or 50 feet. In areas where the
m~ning excavation will be over 10 feet, mining will occur in
lifts and the mining highwall will be benched or sloped as
• necessary to maintain a geotechnically stable configuration.
once removed, the material will be transported to a screen deck
located within the permit boundary for processing. The usable
screened materials will be separately stockpiled from the
unusable materials, such as fines or larger diameter rocks.
Usable material will transported from the stockpile as
necessary. Material stockpile locations will vary from time to
time within the permit area, depending on which areas are being
mined and concurrently reclaimed. Once an area has been graded
and reseeded for final reclamation, it will not be used for
mining, screening, or stockpiling.
The major drainages in the area will not be disturbed. These are
small ephemeral drainages that run only during snowmelt or storm
events. Any runoff into the excavation pit area will be
contained in the pit. Silt fences or straw bales will be
• installed to control sediment from any uncontained runoff.
An existing gravel access road to the site will be utilized.
