128 - Colorow, alkali phase, 0 to 3 percent slopes.
The Colorow, alkali soil is deep and well-drained. It developed from alkali,
stratified calcareous loam alluvium. Small azeas of Colorow were included in
mapping. Colo raw soils are nonalkuLi. These soils occupy about 10 percent of
the mapping unit.
In a typical profile, the surface layer is pale brown sandy loam about 7
inches thick. The subsurface soil is light brownish gray sodic sandy loam about
9 inches thick. The substratum is light gray sodic gravelly sandy loam at least
44 inches thick and is underlain with a water table somewLiere below 6 feet.
The Colorow, alkali soil has moderate permeability and medium runoff. The
erosion hazard is moderate from water and high from wind. Available waterholding
capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or mmore.
• The rock outcrop is primarily exposed shale, silts tone and sandstone bedrock
which is calcareous, brown to yellow and slightly fractured. Included with rock
outcrop are very shallow, skeletal soils adjacent to exposed bedrock.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The vegetation
is primarily greasewood.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 6 inches. This material
is rated fair to good with suitability decreasing with depth.
The surface horizon of this soil is uniformly leached from overland flow
and precipitation. Care should be taken to only remove the uppermost 6 inches
of topsoil.
C ~
J
Revised 4/81
