PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />1. Physiographic Features <br />Topography is gently sloping to rolling. Slope varies from <br />nearly level to 10$. Elevation ranges from 5000 to 7000 feet. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />Average annual precipitation is between 11 and ~6 inches with <br />EO to 70$ falling between March and September, mostly as snow <br />• in March, April and May. <br />Optimum growing season for native plants is early spring and <br />summer. The frost free period ranges from 120 to 150 days. <br />' Temperature ranges from the 90's -- (-) 20's. <br />3. Native (potential) Vegetation <br />Big bluestem, little bluestem, sand reedgrass, needle and-thread <br />and sideoats grama dominate the vegetative cover. Blue grama, <br />western wheatgrass, native bluegrass, Junegrass, sedge, prairie <br />clover and bush buckwheat are also present. <br />Optimum ground cover 15 35$. <br />The following species are most likely to invade this site. <br />Sleepygrass, cheatgrass, six-weeks fescue, and snakeweed. <br />• <br />
