• SOIL PROFILE DESCRIPTION - TRAVESSILLA SERIES <br />The Travessilla series consists of shallow, well drained soils on side <br />slopes, ridgetops, and uplands. These soils formed in residuum derived <br />from sandstone. Slope is 1 to 45 percent. The average annual <br />precipitation is about 1 to 16 inches, and the average annual air <br />temperature is 48 to 54 degrees F. <br />Typical pedon of a Travessilla channery sandy loam in an area of <br />Travessilla-Kim sandy loans, 1 to 9 percent slopes, 1,250 feet east aad <br />2,520 feet south of the northwest corner of Section 31, T. 26 S., <br />R. 63 W. <br />Al-0 to 6 inches; light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) channery sandy loam, <br />dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, <br />very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 15 percent channery fragments of <br />sandstone; calcareous; mildly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. <br />• <br />' Cca-6 to 15 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) channery sandy loam, dark <br />brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; massive; slightly hard, very friable, nonsticky <br />and nonplastic; 25 percent channery fragments of sandstone; lime both <br />layered and in streaks aad soft masses; calcareous; moderately alkaline; <br />abrupt smooth boundary. <br />R-15 inches; sandstone. <br />Bedrock is at a depth of 6 to 20 inches. The A horizon is light <br />brownish gray, pale brown, grayish brown, or brown. It is mildly <br />alkaline or moderately alkaline. The C horizon is pale brown, brow, or <br />light yellowish brown. It is mildly alkaline or moderately alkaline. <br />It is 0 to 35 percent rock fragments. <br /> <br />
