Soils are chestnuts {Mollesols). Surface soils are generally <br />sandy loams, but may be as coarse as loamy sands. Subsoils <br />vary from sandy clay loamy, but are sometimes as'iight as <br />sandy loams. Parent materials range from sandstone to aeolian <br />sand. Good moisture penetration with moderately good water <br />holding capacity act to favor the growth of prairie grasses <br />such as big bluestem. <br />b.
