/ 2) The S.C.S. letter indicates possible enlargement of the
pre-existing quarry. Has the pre-existing quarry been enlarged?
If so, how much? Do you plan additional enlargement or will you
only work in the existing disturbed area?
J 3) The S.C.S. letter also indicates possible topsoil stocks on site.
Has topsoil been previously stored on site?
,i4) Does the operator anticipate encountering any topsoil on-site
during future operations? If so, where will the topsoil be stored
and how will it be protected from erosion?
~5) Your submittal indicates that topsoil will be retrieved from an
area off-site. Please describe this off-site area with regard to
existing topsoil depth. Also, describe the effects of topsoil
removal from this area.
6) Does the operator have the landowners' approval for utilizing
topsoil from a present]y undisturbed area?
~ 7) Be sure that the topsoil source area is included in the total
permit area.
/8) How deep does the operator intend to mine over the duration of the
mine?
/ 9) We often encourage the operators of mines such as yours to bench
highwall areas, with the overall slope no steeper than 2H:1Y. This
reduces safety hazards and it provides areas for topsoil and
re vegetation. We are recommending that over the life of the mine,
the highwalls be benched with the overall slope no steeper than
2H:lY. Benching may not be necessary if you intend to backfill
with overburden material. Please discuss your intentions in this
area.
l 10) Pease verify that no material will be downcast down slope of your
work area.
~ 11) Is your access road a pre-existing road or have you performed any
widening or grading on this road? If road development has
occurred, the road would need to be included in your total permit.
Exhibit C - P4ining Plan Map
1) Please submit a revised map which clearly shows the actual quarry
area, the 2.0 acre permit boundary stockpile areas, topsoil source
area and the access road. The map would give an indication of
bench and highwall areas. You may wish to use an enlarged aerial
photo or other photographs to supplement the map.
