fair wildlife habitat. It is hard to predict what land uses would
e;:ist 75 years from now, bnt it is certain they will be c.ifferent from
• present conditions unless the greater Colorado Springs area population
stops growing.
BASIC RECLAMATIOPI SEQUEtdCE - Castle Concrete Company will be responsible
for reclaiming all the disturbed lands incl~zded in this permit and in
accordance with the plan set forth below.
The reclamation timetable indicates the sequenca and timing of
reclamation events. It is evident from the timetable that wherever
reclamation can be done during the course of mining such will be done.
F.eclamation will not closely follow mining, but will be determined by
the utility of the site in the mining process. Reclamation will at
times take on a patchy appearance but in the end it will till be drawn
together into a final, overall reclamation.
• The noise and sight berm will he the first area to be
reclaimed with revegetation on the outer slopes and the top of the
berm. The inner slopes of the berm will he revegetated in about 10
years when mining activity is nearly completed. The berm area will also
serve as an e~:perimental area to prove the feasibility and detect any
problems in the revegetation process. It is the most severe site in
the mine and if the procedures will work there they will work anywhere
else on the quarry site.
Reclamation of the terraces begins in about 7 yews and will
continue to the end of the operation. This will be quite patchy, but
generally will proceed from the upper terraces to the lower= terraces
~~~ithin the pit.
• The reclamation of the 123 foot high visibility ~irea (sight
reclamation) on the north and the northwest sides of the p:_t will
begin in about 7 years. Completion of this in 10 to 12 ye~irs will help
S-t-2
