• CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY
SNYDER QUARRY 77-210
EXHIBIT E
RECLAMATION PLAN
The long future of the Snyder Quarry and its neeirly continuous
mining over most of its area makes the reclamation plan relatively simple.
The mining will proceed relatively slowly and only a little reclamation
can be done at any one time. Most of the reclamation work: will not
and cannot be done until the end of the operation.
The final land use selected for the quarry has several
possibilities. Two alternatives are presented here. One is to use the
area for underground storage as is done in some salt and limestone
mines elsewhere in the United States. The nearly constant, naturally
• controlled moisture and temperature conditions in the underground areas
is ideal for storage of documents. The outside of the quarry could
be carefully landscaped or returned to mostly a natural site.
The second alternative would be as a park area. This could
be an interesting option that could provide an interesting diversity of
recreational possibilities.
The final choice need not be made until late in the mine
life. Several other options could become feasible later depending on
community needs and developers' interests. At this time, the first
alternative is most feasible.
Adjacent land uses are rapidly changing. Residential uses
of nearby lands is certainly a possibility in the future and a few plans
are currently in progress on adjacent tracts. Some of the land is also
_~
5-E-1
