n
U
•

will be removed and deposited as depicted in Figures D.5-1 through 11
(Table E.5-1). Stability of the overburden stored will be insured by
a combination of the effects of natural settling and the weight of the
earthmoving equipment.
Final contours in the reclaimed pit will approximate 2:1 (horizontal to
vertical) slopes and will blend with surrounding topography.
When the topsoil is replaced, it will be graded to an average depth of
10 to 14 inches.
E.5.2 Revegetation .
The goal of revegetation will be to return the steeper affected land (50
acres) to a woodland habitat and gently sloping to level affected land
(450 acres) to rangeland habitat.
A test plot project will be initiated to evaluate plant establishment
planting and mulching techniques, fertilizer response, adaptation to
specific sites and soils as well as any other factors that manifest
themselves. Cotter will also be evaluating soil microbiologic techniques
as well as developing locally adapted sources for seed.
lJoody species, browse grasses and fortis will be selected to provide
optimum forage and to enhance wildlife habitat
as well as introduced species will be used.
Native seed and seedlings
E-6
