1
' EXHIBIT D
1 Webb Pit
' Wildlife
The Colorado Division of ,-lildlife has determined that the impact of wildlife
' from sand and gravel extraction will be very minor. The County will follow the
Division's [ecommendations during reclamation and the actual mining operation.
Mater Resources
The pit does not have any significant surface or ground water present due to
the low crater table at the mining site. The area will be contoured to prevent
' erosion during the operation and reclamation phases.
' Vegetation
The excavation site is treeless, and the ground cover is 30 percent. The
' native vegetation consists of an open stand of big sagebrush with an abundance of
grasses including western wheatgrass, bluebunch ti~rheatgrass, needlegrass, squirrel-
tail, bluegrasses and Indian ricegrass. Shrubs, other than big sage, are gray
horsebrush, low rabbitbrush, tall rabbitbrush. The principal forbes are American
vetch, buck~•rheats, bluebells, globemallo.•r, lupine, yarrow, balsamroot and fleabane.
Invaders on this site include pinyon pine and Utah juniper. Ctieatgrass and
' other introduced annuals that are not a part of the potential plant community vrill
invade when the cover deteriorates.
Because of steep slopes and sparse cover, this land has little or no value for
livestock grazing.
' Soils
' Potts, 3 to 6 percent slopes
This is a deep, well drained soil on upland mesas and sideslopes at elevations
of 5000 to 7000 feet. It formed in calcareous wind deposited materials. The average
annual precipitation is about 12 inches, mean annual air temperature is about 48° F.,
and the average frost-free period is about 120 days.
' Included in this unit may be small areas of Scholle loam, Clapper-Scholle
Association, Keith silt loam, all having slopes of 3 to 6 percent.
1
