I • 3-18
3.4 Specialty and Critical Areas
Not applicable.
3.5 Final Hydrologic Restoration
The final reclamation contours for the disturbed area are shown in Figures 3.1-7
and 3.1-2. Vegetative cover and the reclaimed contours are designed to preclude
erosional velocities and the ponding of water to the extent possible. Originally the
streams in the mine bench area included several waterfalls in their channels. Table
3.1-1 shows the characteristics of the channels as they will be reclaimed. Though the
velocities are fairly high they are in line with those naturally occurring in the area.
A~9ditionally, the channels are located in areas that will have solid rock in the channel
bottoms. In those areas where soil or backfilled material form the channel bottom,
adequately sized rip-rap (abundant in both the cuts and fills required by reclamation)
will be placed in the channels.
Specific channels may require additional protection from the high velocities that
• will be attained in the upper reaches of the channels. Soils in the area are typically stiff
clays that are very colloidal and can withstand channel velocities of 5 fps without
erosion.

M`Clane Volume 1 06/04
