3-17
3.4.9 Evaluation of Revegetation
Success of revegetation will be determined by comparison of reclaimed areas to
reference areas using the same techniques used in the baseline vegetation inventory
(WRCD 1980b). The area will be subjectively evaluated annually for success or
revegetation beginning the second year after initial permanent seeding. A statistically
adequate sampling of cover and woody plant density will take place in the fourth year or
earlier at the operator's discretion. Parameters compared will include vegetation
canopy cover, herbaceous production, species diversity and woody plant density. For
demonstrations of revegetation success, the parameters of vegetation cover,
herbaceous production and woody plant density will be sampled to statistical adequacy
and compared to the appropriate reference areas (cover and production) and standards
(woody plant density). Diversity comparisons will be made based on relative cover
values obtained from the statistically adequate sampling. Statistical adequacy will be
demonstrated using formulas recommended in the Division's current bond release
guideline. Statistical tests of success will also follow the procedures recommended in
the bond release guideline. Sampling techniques used for cover, production and woody
plant density will be the same as those used for baseline data collection.
The following success standards will be used to evaluate revegetation.
Densi Greasewood Shrubland 500 stems per acre
Shadscale Shrubland 500 stems per acre
Juniper Woodland 1,500 stems per acre
Diversi A minimum of three perennial species shall provide a minimum of 3%
relative cover. At least two of these species must be cool season
perennial grasses. No individual species shall represent more than 60%
relative cover.
M`Clane Volume 1 (Rev 6/04)
