_ The areas affected by surface operations will be reclaimed
• consistent with returning the land to its undeveloped, pre-mining
state The success of revegetation for bond release will be
determined by comparing the vegetation in the applicable
reference area using the methods and criteria described below.
REVEGETATION SUCCESS METHODS
Cover Data Collection
Cover data will be collected using the line transect point intercept
method. Sample locations will be chosen by randomly selecting
points within a grid of the reference or reclaimed area. Grid
intervals shall ont exceed 10 meters on the ground. Randomly
generated location coordinates will be plotted on a map and
located in the field by pacing from known features or land marks.
• Random numbers, between 1 and 360 will be generated to orient
each transect direction.
Sample hits will be taken at 0.5 meter intervals along the entire
length of the 25 meter transect. These first hit (50) data values
will constitute the absolute cover values for one full sample set.
Additional hits on each 0.5 meter interval shall be recorded
separately for use in compiling relative cover, the plant species list
and to quantitatively describe each area sampled.
Cover by individual species shall be collected for the 50 hits within
each transect and later combined into total vegetation cover. In
addition, litter, rock and bare ground percentage shall be recorded
and later combined into total ground cover. Sample location
which
14-19 (Retype 12/16/96)
