_ encompass non-contiguous reclaimed areas or varying vegetation <br />• types shall be consecutively numbered through each area or <br />vegetation type to allow individual or grouped comparison of data <br />collected. <br />Production Data Collection <br />Production data shall be collected using one meter squared plots. <br />Sample locations shall be chosen by randomly selecting points <br />within a grid of the reference or reclaimed area as described in <br />"Cover Data Collection" or by randomly locating plots three feet <br />perpendicular and three feet to the right from the 25 meter end of <br />a cover transect in those areas monitored for cover. <br />Documentation of sample locations and consecutive numbering of <br />non- contiguous areas or vegetation types shall be completed as <br />described in cover data above. <br />• <br />Annual above-ground herbaceous biomass shall be clipped by <br />dominant species and remaining minor species by life form. Full <br />shrubs, succulents, noxious weeds and cushion plants should not <br />be clipped. If annual grasses and/or annual (orbs are major <br />community components. these life forms shall be included in the <br />sampling. <br />Clipped biomass should be placed in paper bags and dried in a <br />forced air over (105~C for 24 hours). Samples shall be weighed <br />on an appropriate scale to the nearest 0.10 gram and reported in <br />g/m2 and lbs./acre. Clipped samples less than 0.10 gram shall be <br />reported as trace samples. Average bag weight shall be <br />calculated and subtracted from weighed samples. <br />• 14-20 (Retype 12/16/96) <br />
