Annual evaluations of areas treated will monitor the effectiveness
of the program and the need for additional treatments.
Additional weed control may include control of any type of
vegetation which may grow around substations, buildings,
conveyors, within 100' of mine portals, and other areas where
vegetation may present a fire hazard.
(vi) Revegetated areas will be monitored to determine the success of
plant establishment and stand development. Monitoring will consist
of both qualitative and quantitative observations. At the end of the
first full growing season following seeding, the reclaimed areas will
be visually evaluated to determine areas which may require
reseeding. Annual visual inspection of the reclaimed sites will
continue during the responsibility period.
In years 4 and 6, vegetation cover will be evaluated for the
reclaimed sites. Both total cover and species cover will be
determined. A minimum of 10 cover samples will be collected in
each reclaimed unit. This data will be used to evaluate if
established vegetation is developing effectively.
Ongoing monitoring has determined that livestock grazing may
affect the establishment of vegetation at the south fan and RSRDA
borrow area. For this reason, fencing will be installed in 2005 to
limit grazing in these areas. Additionally, fencing will be installed to
limit pedestrian and vehicular degradation of the greasewood
reference area.
14-18 (Rev. 09/05)
