r
Mr. Bob Oswald
Division of Minerals & Geology
March 2, 1994
Page 2
The Mining Map has been amended to provide the best estima-
tion of details for depth and direction of mining. Without a
more definitive core drilling program, the best estimation at
this time is for a maximum of 10' of overburden and 20' of
clay seam. Mining is proposed to proceed from the east pe-
rimeter to the southwest with the same mining methods as
described in Phase I. Access is directly across the road
from the access to Phase I. Other items are detailed on the
map.
It must be kept in mind that both the timetable and mining
plan are but estimations at this time and can vary with brick
demand and clay thickness.
5. Exhibit D mentions an overburden layer at depth of 2 to
30 feet. Exhibit E states that "there will be no spoil". Is
this overburden to be regarded as distinct and different from
spoil. Please clarifiy.
This is a matter of semantics. To me, spoil is somewhat of a
derogatory term whereas topsoil and overburden are more ac-
curate terms for spoil in this type of operation. However,
"spoil" is probably a more accurate term when compared to the
ore body.
6. Exhibit D - underlying layer of shale not an ideal medium
for deep-rooted grasses. Concern about insuffiicient thick-
ness of overburden, before topsoiling. What is the expected
depth of the replaced overburden.
As stated in 5, the "spoil" or 2 to 10 fleet of overburden to
be stockpiled and then spread for topsoiling is anticipated
to be adequate for successful revegetation.
7 & 8 dealing with the Stormwater Discharge Permit and
Stormwater Management Plan were covered in the previous let-
ter of 3/1/94.
9. Information on Phase II and III on loction and timing.
Exhibit E, Phase II and III have been shown on the mining map
with timing projected as:
Phase II - 2014 - 2030
Phase III- 2030 - 2040
Mining will start adjacent to the east perimeter and proceed
southwest in the same manner as described for Phase I. It
should be obvious that these time projections are just that.
Projecting business demand 45 years ahead is a very nebulous
task.
