• July 1993 -31- 923-2515
cropped two years consecutively and then allowed to lie fallow for a year. Wheat and barley
aze planted on a rotational basis.
A 15 acre abandoned dryland agriculture field (DA-1), located in Annand Draw southwest of
Noftsger Zeigler Reservoir (Figure 2), was cropped as recently as 1982. There are no records
or productivity, but the ASCS (Daughenbaugh 1992) estimates the grass hay productivity to have
been 1.2 to 1.5 tons per acre, based on Routt County averages for dryland hay production.
Surface flow data from monitoring station YSAF4 located about 1750 feet updrainage from the
field had a single recorded, flow of 0.4 cfs during the summer of 1992. Two small springs
(Annand Spring 1 & 2) aze located upstream of the field. Two ditches, Annand Ditch 1 and
Annand Ditch 2 associated with the springs, are on record with the Colorado Division of Water
Resource as inactive. There is no evidence of the ditches at the present time. On November
• 4, 1992, a six foot deep borehole (WRD-4) was hand augured in the lower portion of this field.
This borehole failed to yield water. Subirrigated wetlands azeas are limited to a narrow band
along the natural drainage channel.
Currently this meadow includes such cultivazs as smooth brome (Bromis inermis), timothy, and
tall wheatgrass (Agropyron elongatum). Redtop is present in the wetlands zone along the stream.
5.4 Scotchmans Gulch
5.4.1 Stream Flow. Ground Water, and Water Quality
There aze no existing data on the stream flow or water quality for Scotchmans Gulch, an
ephemeral drainage. The stream channel is about two feet deep and had saturated soils, areas
of ponded water, but no running water at the time of the October field visit.

Golder Associates
