flake found 15 m north of a camp fire. The fire consists of oxidized stones and
charcoal-stained soil. About 25 m east of the hearth is a scatter of historic
tin food and tobacco cans. The site has no apparent depth. The limited
evidence for the preY,.istoric component and the recentness of the historic trash
scatter indicate that Site 1156 is unlikely to yield important information on
the prehistoric or historic use of the area. It is not considered eligible for
the National Register.
Site 1157 is an open campsite containing indications of both prehistoric
aboriginal and historic Euro-American utilization. It includes txo firehearths,
probably historic in age based on general appearance and the presence of
evaporated milk cane. North of the hearth, for approximately 50 m, is a sparse
scatter of seven lithic flakes and one tin can. The limited evidence for the
prehistoric use of the locale and a lack of important information on either
aboriginal or Euro-American occupation of the area. Thus, it is not thought to
be eligible for nomination to the National Register.
This site is an open lithic scatter conaiatiag of 21 chert flakes scattered in a
14 a 15 m area. Ther= are no diagnostic artifacts nor cultural features
evident. The depth of the site is uncertain, but the possibility of buried
cultural data seems limited. The sparseness of the artifact scatter, lack of '
diagnostic tools and features, and apparent lack of additional materials combine
to indicate that this site will not yield further important 3ata and is not •
eligible for nominaticn to the National Register.
This site is an extensive but sparse lithic scatter found near a large sandstone
outcrop. The site measures 70 x 20 m, with the northern edge of the site
boundary cut by a txo••track road. The artifact assemblage includes 57 chert and
quartzite flakes and a fragment of a smell, corner-notched projectile point.
The arrox point probably dates to the period after A. D. 500. The site surface
is lightly eroded and the site does not appear to contain buried features. It
is felt that Site 1171 is not likely to contribute information important to the
area's prehistory and is, therefore, not eligible for nomination to the National
Register of Historic 1?laces.
A LIST OF THOSE SITES LOCATED WITHIN THE MINE PLAN AREA MUST BE PROVIDED.
In this case, it is assumed that "mine plan area" means "permit boundary area"
as indicated on Maps 1 and 2 of the Mining Permit Application.
